Full-time studies

The Institute of Archaeology offers a modern and flexible programme of academic instruction. Students are given an opportunity to develop their individual interests. Specialisation is a gradual process made as the course progresses. There is room to choose from among several different sets of courses. The study programme is designed not only to give students the very best training in the archaeological profession but also to provide knowledge and skills needed to ensure a good start in other disciplines. This should explain why we have included in our programme elements of general education in humanities as well as courses in Techniques of Securing and Processing Data, or Statistics — important assets on the modern job market.

Descriptions of successive years of study include information on the required duration and type of course units in individual years and on their value in ECTS points. The latter makes it possible to compare the level of progress of students who are taking advantage of various didactic offers and are useful when applying for overseas grants, something IA UW students are encouraged to do throughout their entire course of study. Detailed information on timetables and room numbers of individual classes are provided with the course descriptions for individual years.
