This seminar brings together two leading scholars from the University of Caen to explore the formative period of the Norman duchy and the material culture of early medieval France.
Speakers:
• Pierre Bauduin, The beginnings of the Norman duchy: some questions
• Luc Bourgeois, Wooden architecture and wooden objects from the 10th–12th centuries: two exceptionally well-preserved French sites
- Pierre Bauduin is Professor of Medieval History at the University of Caen and a member of CRAHAM. His research focuses on the medieval Norman worlds, the Vikings, cultural transfers, identities, writing, and historiography.
- Luc Bourgeois is Professor of Medieval Archaeology at the University of Caen (Centre Michel de Boüard – CRAHAM). He specializes in the origins of medieval towns and castles, and in the material culture of the aristocracy between the 10th and 12th centuries.
