Seminarium: Normandia i Francja – narodziny księstwa, kultura materialna, tożsamości

This seminar brings together two leading scholars from the University of Caen to explore the formative period of the Norman duchy and the material culture of early medieval France.

Speakers:
Pierre Bauduin, The beginnings of the Norman duchy: some questions
Luc Bourgeois, Wooden architecture and wooden objects from the 10th–12th centuries: two exceptionally well-preserved French sites

 

  • Pierre Bauduin is Professor of Medieval History at the University of Caen and a member of CRAHAM. His research focuses on the medieval Norman worlds, the Vikings, cultural transfers, identities, writing, and historiography.
  • Luc Bourgeois is Professor of Medieval Archaeology at the University of Caen (Centre Michel de Boüard – CRAHAM). He specializes in the origins of medieval towns and castles, and in the material culture of the aristocracy between the 10th and 12th centuries.
